Baker earns SAC Player of Week honors for Baseball

ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's Matt Baker and Tusculum's Wes Hill were named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Baker, a 5-11 infielder from Charlotte, N.C., hit .609 over six games, recording multiple hits in four of those games. The Central Cabarrus alumnus drove in seven runs with four doubles and two homers. A 9-1 win over Belmont Abbey was Baker's showcase, batting .800 (4-5) with a homerun. He currently holds a .512 season batting average. Tusculum College sophomore reliever Wes Hill recorded a save and a win in back-to-back nine inning games Saturday at the Dick Williams Baseball Classic. Hill posted his first save of the season tossing 1.1 innings of hitless baseball, including a pair of strikeouts in Tusculum's 8-2 come-from-behind win over Belmont Abbey College. Later that day, he came on in relief once again and recorded his first win of the season in TC's 9-8 win at Catawba. The Pioneers rallied from an 8-2 deficit to post the victory. Hill went 2.2 innings, allowed three hits and struck out a pair. He didn't allow an earned run all weekend. The SAC player and pitcher of the week are determined by votes of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
