Locklear named SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, SC --- Danyel Locklear of Catawba College has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. It marks the third time this season Locklear has earned this honor. Locklear, a 6-0 senior forward from Pembroke, N.C., averaged 23 points and 8.5 rebounds in leading the Lady Indians to pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week. She posted 21 points and 10 boards in Catawba's 87-76 road win over Wingate University. The Ragsdale High School graduate followed that effort with 25 points as Tribe defeated Newberry College 76-74. In that game, she sat on the bench for 10 minutes of the second half with four fouls, then entered with eight minutes left and scored 11 points down the stretch. She tallied a three-point play with 3:20 remaining to put Catawba on top 69-68. Locklear shot 56.7 percent from the floor and 12-of-14 from the free throw line for 86 percent. The SAC Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
