Rare win at PC pushes Women's Basketball into SAC lead

CLINTON, SC -- Catawba College moved into a tie for the conference lead with a 76-63 win over host Presbyterian in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at the Templeton Center.  The win marks only the second time in 15 tries and first since 1996 that the Lady Indians had won at Presbyterian.  The victory, coupled with a Lenoir-Rhyne loss to Wingate, moves Catawba into a three-way tie for the SAC lead.  A win on Saturday at Carson-Newman would give Catawba its third title in four years and the top seed in the league tournament.  Catawba improves to 18-8 overall and 10-3 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose fall to 8-18 and 3-10.
Senior Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) posted a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Indians.  Catawba used a 22-11 run over the final six minutes of the half to take command, grabbing a 45-29 lead at the break.  Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) scored 10 of her 11 points in the opening half.

Catawba would increase its lead to 50-29 in the opening moments of the final half and held a double-digit lead for the rest of the way.  Presbyterian was able to trim the deficit to 10 on two occasions, the last at 64-54 with just under seven minutes to play.  Locklear would score six straight points to push the lead back to 16.  The Lady Indians shot 55% in the opening half and finished the game hitting on 27-of-60 attempts (45%).  Presbyterian shot 38% for the contest.  Catawba also connected on 20-of-26 (77%) at the line.

Cameron Cook (Greensboro, NC) tossed in 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for PC, while senior Billie Haskins (Greensboro, GA) had 14.  Lauren Yanik (Greer, SC) scored 11 and had seven boards.  Isiaette Darden (Wilson, NC) also reached double figures for Catawba with a dozen off the bench.  Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, VA) added nine points and seven rebounds for the Lady Indians.
