Wilson fans 15 as Baseball splits with Aiken

AIKEN, SC – Catawba College and host USC-Aiken split a pair of shutout decisions in a baseball doubleheader at Hernandez Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Catawba took the opener 5-0, while the Pacers won the nightcap 2-0. The Indians now stand at 10-8 on the year, while Aiken is 5-8. Junior Thomas Wilson (Smithfield, NC) struck out 15 batters and allowed just three hits with two walks in the complete game shutout for the game one victory. Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) delivered three more RBI to back the stellar pitching. Davis drove home the first run in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly and added a two-out, two-run single in the eighth. Jeff Boyles (Pinnacle, NC) added a two-run homer in the ninth for the Tribe. Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) went 3-for-3 and Mark Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) scored twice. Aiken’s Derek Claussen (Joliet, IL) and Wes McColl (Mullins, SC) combined to blank the Indians in the second game. Claussen surrendered just four hits over six innings, while McColl tossed the seventh to earn the save. The Pacers managed just four hits off Catawba starter Zach Snyder (Lexington, NC), but scored a pair of unearned runs in the second for the only scoring of the game. Bradley Key (Evans, GA) had a pair of hits, while Matthew Tripp (Dunn, NC) had an RBI single. Baker had two of the five Catawba hits. #####
