Wilson earns SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors

ROCK HILL, SC -- Presbyterian outfielder Lance Howard and Catawba pitcher Thomas Wilson have earned South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon. A 6-2, 185 pound lefthander, Wilson tossed a complete game shutout with 15 strikeouts in his only appearance of the week as Catawba topped USC-Aiken 5-0. The Smithfield, N.C., native surrendered just three hits while walking two. Wilson improved his record on the season to 2-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.51. Howard, a 6-0 outfielder from Simpsonville, S.C., hit .538 over three games, while driving in three runs last week. Howard had seven hits with one double and had a slugging percentage of .615 % against SAC opponent Carson-Newman College. In game one, Howard made an outstanding catch at the left field fence and doubled-up the runner at second base to save a run and an extra base hit for the Blue Hose in the bottom of the seventh. The momentum carried Presbyterian to their first conference victory of the season over the preseason # 2 Eagles. The SAC player and pitcher of the week are determined by votes of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
