Women's Soccer Battles to Draw With #16 Columbus St.
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba and 16th-ranked Columbus State battled to a 1-1 draw in women’s soccer action on Thursday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. Both teams now stand at 2-0-1 on the season.
The teams played 85 minutes off scoreless soccer before trading goals in a span of a minute. The Cougars scored first. Emma Beddow tapped home a rebound off a save into an empty net in the 86th minute. Rachael Sweigard took the initial shot from the top of the box and the save by Sierra Davis fell to an unmarked Beddow inside the six.
Catawba bounced back a minute later. Kelly Havens ran on to a loose ball at the top of the box following a clear on a corner kick and rifled a shot home for the equalizer. Neither team could break the deadlock in extra time.
Davis recorded seven saves for the Catawba Indians. Sara Halihodzic notched eight for the Cougars. Catawba held a 15-14 edge in shots, while CSU took 12 corners to 11 for the Lady Indians.
Catawba is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Chowan for a 5 p.m. match.
