Jason Bryan became the head coach for the Catawba Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs in 2014. Bryan came to Catawba from the College of Charleston where he has served as an assistant coach for the men’s team since August of 2012.
Bryan was a key recruiter for the College of Charleston and worked with all aspects of the program. During his tenure the Cougars produced their first all-conference runner in a decade and set school records for 800m, 1500m and 5k distances. The teams also earned several academic all-conference selections.
Prior to his stint at the College of Charleston, Bryan was an assistant for both the men’s and women’s cross country and track teams at Anderson University. In 2011, he was named the USTFCCCA Women’s Division II Southeast Assistant Coach of the Year for track.
Bryan helped the Trojans to a pair of Conference Carolinas Championships in women’s cross country with three runners advancing as national qualifiers. He helped produced eight all-conference runners on both the men’s and women’s side with the men having a conference runner-up finish. In track, Anderson had three national qualifiers from the women’s team and one from the men’s squad.
Bryan earned a degree in business management from Anderson in 2008. He was an assistant at Erskine for the 2008 season before returning to Anderson where he earned a master’s degree in business administration in 2010.
A four-year student-athlete for the Trojans in cross country and track & field, Bryan was a team captain his junior and senior years. He was named all-conference as a junior, a year in which Anderson won the Carolinas Virginias Athletic Conference Championship.
Bryan is a native of Greenville, S.C. Bryan and his wife, Melissa, were married in December of 2013. They have a daughter, Hadley, and a son, Welles.

Robert Marchinko joined the Catawba Cross Country and Track and Field Program as an assistant coach in January of 2018. He comes to Catawba with over 25 years of coaching at both the high school and collegiate level and will be helping coach the distance runners.
Marchinko spent three years as the Head Cross Country at Pfeiffer University from 2002-05. During his tenure, the men’s team qualified to the Division II National Championships for the first time in school history. In addition, Marchinko coached both a two-time CVAC Conference Champion and Division II National Qualifier in Cross Country. Marchinko was the CVAC Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2002.
Marchinko graduated from Kent State University in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Science in physical education. He has been teaching physical education for 24 years, the last 18 years with Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
While at both Cleveland State and Kent State University, Marchinko earned all-conference honors in both cross country and track. He was Mid-Continent Conference Cross Country Champion and Runner of the Year in 1991. In addition, Marchinko has won the Charlotte Marathon in 2003 and 2005 and Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2005.
Marchinko, is a native of Jefferson, Ohio. Marchinko and his wife, Wendy, have lived in Salisbury since 2000. They have a son, Zachary, who runs cross country and track as a sophomore at Charlotte and is a two-time all-conference performer.
