Steven Asher joins the Catawba Men's Basketball Staff after spending last year as an assistant coach with the men's basketball program at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., under the tutelage of Head Coach, Guy Rancourt. In his first year with the Warriors, Asher helped the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance and its first MAC Commonwealth title since joining the league in 2008. The Warriors posted a 19-10 record and won three road games in the MAC Commonwealth Championships to earn the title. While at Lycoming, Asher received his masters of real estate development from the University of Maryland.
Before Lycoming, Asher spent three years at the University of Maryland, where he served as a graduate assistant for two years and as a basketball performance intern for one season. As graduate assistant with the Maryland men’s basketball staff, Asher was responsible for assisting with the filming and editing of game and practice film, scouting reports, tracking statistics, overseeing the recruiting database and coordinating team travel. He also helped monitor academic progress of student-athletes as well as overseeing the nine-man student manager staff. Asher also helped coordinate on-campus recruiting visits of high school prospects.
In one year as a basketball performance intern, Asher assisted and helped facilitate all aspects of the basketball performance program for both the men's and women's Maryland basketball teams. While interning, Asher also assisted with player development workouts and video editing for former Maryland assistant women's basketball coach and current assistant coach of the Washington Wizards, David Adkins, working with NBA, WNBA, foreign professional players and collegiate players.
Before coming to Maryland, Asher graduated from James Madison in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. While attending JMU, Asher played and served as vice president of the JMU club basketball team. Asher graduated from River Hill High School in 2008 where he was a member of the 2007 Maryland 3A State Championship Basketball team.
