Ben McConnell joined the Catawba Sports Performance Staff in August of 2018. Prior to joining the Catawba staff, McConnell spent the 2017-18 school year at Western Carolina University as an Assistant Sports Performance Coach for the Catamounts Track & Field, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, and Football teams.
During the 2016-17 school year, McConnell worked at Wake Forest University as an intern for Olympic Sports under Ethan Reeve. He was also the Interim Director of Sports Performance for Wake Forest Women’s Basketball from February to June of 2017.
Before starting his career in collegiate strength and conditioning, McConnell spent seven years as a high school physical education and kinesiology teacher as well as cross country and track & field coach and high school strength and conditioning coach.
McConnell received his bachelor’s degree in health & physical education in 2009 from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania where he competed for four years on the track team in the 400m and 800m. He was a two-time athletic and academic All-American for the Bald Eagles as well as a two-time captain of the track & field team. McConnell received his master’s in education in 2012 from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
McConnell is certified by the CSCCa with the SCCC and the NSCA with the CSCS. He also holds a USATF Level 1 certification.
McConnell resides in Winston-Salem with his wife, Ryann, and their German Shepherd, Rocky.
