Mecklenburg HS) came up two points shy of 2,000 career points, but his 25 was enough to lift host Catawba to a 78-65 win over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The win gave Catawba Coach Jim Baker his 300th career win, all at Catawba, and improved the Indians to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the SAC. The Pioneers fell to 12-10 and 6-5.

Rutherford equaled career-highs in both scoring (30 pts) and rebounding (13 pts) in posting a double-double for the Catawba Indians, who improve to 13-7 overall and 6-3 in the SAC. The Bulldogs fall to 11-10 and 4-6.

The win improves Newberry to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 11-7 and 4-3.
