SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba swept a baseball doubleheader from visiting California, PA, on Monday at Newman Park.  The Catawba Indians took the opener 6-5 and claimed an 11-4 victory in the nightcap.  Catawba, ranked 17th in NCAA II, improves to 3-0, while the Vulcans fall to 0-2.

SALISBURY, NC -- Senior Antonio Houston (Charlotte, NC/E. Mecklenburg HS) came up two points shy of 2,000 career points, but his 25 was enough to lift host Catawba to a 78-65 win over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  The win gave Catawba Coach Jim Baker his 300th career win, all at Catawba, and improved the Indians to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the SAC.  The Pioneers fell to 12-10 and 6-5.

SALISBURY, NC -- Tusculum’s Jasmine Gunn (Nashville, TN) posted a double-double with 24 points and 11 assists as the Pioneers downed host Catawba 80-56 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  Tusculum wins for the fifth straight time and improves to 14-7 overall and 7-4 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians fall to 13-8 and 6-4.

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba opened its 2010 baseball season with a 10-6 win over visiting Pfeiffer on Thursday afternoon at Newman Park.  Josh Hohn (Greensboro, NC/S. Guilford HS/N. Greenville) hit a three-run homer, while Wade Moore (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS/NC State) and Cameron White (Columbia, SC/Ridge View HS) had clutch two-run doubles in the eighth to lift the Catawba Indians to the win.

MONROE, NC -- Senior Donald Rutherford’s (Morganton, NC/Freedom HS) tip-in with six seconds left provided visiting Catawba with a 75-73 win over Wingate in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena.  Rutherford equaled career-highs in both scoring (30 pts) and rebounding (13 pts) in posting a double-double for the Catawba Indians, who improve to 13-7 overall and 6-3 in the SAC.  The Bulldogs fall to 11-10 and 4-6.

WINGATE, NC -- Catawba shot just 30% and was beaten badly on the boards (55-33) in a 75-59 loss at Wingate in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena.  A10-0 run late in the first half provided the Bulldogs with a comfortable lead it never gave up.  Wingate improves to 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 13-7 and 6-3.

Swimming: Higginbotham Named Bluegrass Men's Swimmer of the Week Swimming http://gocatawbaindians.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=3872

Catawba College freshman, Alex Higginbotham (Gilroy, CA/Valley Christian HS), has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.  Higginbotham, swimming in his first meet with the Indians since joining the team for the second semester, recorded one school record and helped the Tribe to a win in the 200 medley relay in a dual meet victory against Pfeiffer.

Golf (M): Men's Golf Places 12th at Outback Intercollegiate Golf (M) http://gocatawbaindians.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=3870

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL -- Catawba finished 12th among 15 teams at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament which concluded on Tuesday at the 6,541-yard, par-72 Hombre Golf Club.  The Catawba Indians served as host for the tournament.  Flagler took the team title by 20 shots over runner-up North Greenville.  Flagler had a total of 580.  Cataba posted a score of 643.
