ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- Catawba College placed nine players on the 2015 Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference football teams.  Three of those, Carlos Tarrats, Mark McDaniel and Kyle Kitchens were first team picks.  The teams were announced by the league office on Tuesday and are chosen by the league’s Football Media Relations Directors.

Football: Football Picked 4th in SAC Preseason Coaches Poll Football

ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- Catawba has been voted fourth by the South Atlantic Conference football head coaches in the 2015 SAC Football Preseason Poll.  Lenoir-Rhyne, who received six first-place votes, were tabbed as the favorite to win the title.  The poll was announced by the league office on Monday.

Swimming: Michael Sever Named Men's and Women's Swim Coach Swimming

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Director of Athletics, Larry Leckonby, has announced the hiring of Michael Sever as the men’s and women’s swim coach.  Sever comes to Catawba from the University of Maine, where he has served as an assistant coach since 2012.

Baseball: Albertson and Brooks Among NCAA II Baseball Stat Leaders Baseball

Catawba’s baseball team finished the year ranked highly in numerous categories in the year-end NCAA II statistics.  The Catawba Indians ranked among the top 20 in a dozen categories, while also producing several individual stat leaders.

Softball: Tysinger Finishes Top 10 in Several Categories for NCAA II Softball

Catawba softball player Carley Tysinger finished among the top 10 in NCAA II in shutouts, strikeouts and wins in the final 2015 rankings.  The rising senior totaled the seventh most strikeouts with her record 325 total and was also seventh with her record-equaling 10 shutouts.  Tysinger’s 27 wins ranked her 10th in NCAA II and also matched the school record.

Lacrosse (W): Women's Lacrosse Finishes 15th in NCAA II in Draw Control Wins Lacrosse (W)

Catawba finished ranked 15th among the 92 NCAA II women’s lacrosse teams in draw controls per game.  The Catawba Indians averaged 14.6 a game in posting a 9-9 record in 2015.  Catawba ranked 27th in both ground balls a game (19.89) and assists per game (5.89).

Lacrosse (M): Rew Finishes #2 in NCAA II in Face-Off Win Percentage Lacrosse (M)

The Catawba men’s lacrosse team finished third in face-off winning percentage among the 58 teams ranked in the NCAA II final statistics for 2015.  The Catawba Indians won 66.3% (238-of-359) of its attempts on the season, setting a new school record.  Limestone led the nation, winning 71.6% on the year.

Athletics News: Promotions Announced Within Catawba Athletic Department Athletics News

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Director of Athletics Larry Leckonby has announced several changes in the athletic staff.  Craig Turnbull has been promoted to Associate Athletics Director, Jim Lewis to Senior Assistant Athletic Director and David McDowell to Assistant Athletic Director.  Basketball assistant coaches Brian Graves, for the men, and Terrence Baxter, for the women, have been promoted to Associate Head Coaches.  Ricky Joines joins the athletic department as the Coordinator of Athletic Facilities.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Catawba men’s and women’s swimming teams have earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the spring semester of 2015.  To receive the honor, teams must have a combined 3.0 GPA for the semester for all members of the team.
