INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Catawba claimed one of 48 spots for the 2012 NCAA II Baseball Championships as announced by the NCAA on Sunday night.  It marks the fifth straight year for the Catawba Indians in the post-season field.  The Indians will face conference-foe Tusculum in their first regional game on Thursday afternoon at Mount Olive College.

Catawba College has announced several summer softball camp dates for 2012.  The camps will be conducted at Whitley Field on the Catawba campus.  The all-skills camps will be held from June 18-21 and July 16-19.

McLEAN, VA -- Catawba’s Alli Justice (Bishopville, MD/Decatur HS) has been named to the 2012 Capitol One Academic All-District III Softball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Justice, a senior first baseman, is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

McLEAN, VA -- Catawba senior Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) has been named to the 2012 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Three Baseball Team.  Underwood, a shortstop, advances to the Academic All-America Ballot.

SAVANNAH, GA -- Catawba was eliminated from the 2012 NCAA DII Southeast Region Softball Tournament, falling to host and second-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday afternoon at the AASU Softball Field.  The ninth-ranked Pirates improve to 45-10 and stay alive to face third-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne in another elimination game on Saturday.  The Catawba Indians end their season at 33-19.

SAVANNAH, GA - South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Year Dawon Millwood hurled a three-hit shutout, striking out 11, to lead No. 12-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne to a 2-0 victory over Catawba on Friday afternoon in first-day action at the 2012 NCAA DII Softball Southeast Regional.  Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 47-11 on the season and will next play against the winner of Flagler and No. 9 Armstrong at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Catawba (33-18) awaits the loser of Friday's second game in a 1:30 p.m. elimination game on Saturday.

NEWBERRY, SC -- Catawba sophomore Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) has been selected to the 2012 All-Independent Women’s Lacrosse team.  Mills was named to the second team.  The All-Independent teams comprise those schools who fielded women’s lacrosse teams that are not associated with a conference and were voted on by the coaches from those schools that elected to participate.   Schools participating were Catawba, Florida Southern, Grand Valley State, Lenoir-Rhyne, Newberry, Shepherd, Tiffin and Urbana.

 SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College has announced its 2011-12 athletic award winners for its student-athletes.  The awards were presented at the annual athletic ceremony held at the Keppel Auditorium on Tuesday, May 1.  Heading the list of award winners were Braden Artem and Dana Hicks, who were awarded the Kirkland and Lomax Awards for the top female and male senior athletes, and Steffi Cook and Jeb Bass, who were given the Wurster Awards for team leadership.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The 64-team field for the 2012 NCAA II Softball Championships have been announced and Catawba has earned its first-ever berth in the tournament.  The Catawba Indians will open play against a familiar opponent, conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne.
