SALISBURY, N.C. -- Nick Brown, Catawba Head Women’s Soccer Coach, has announced his incoming class for the 2017 season which is set to get underway on September 1 against the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. The eight new players joining the current squad for the upcoming season are Abbie Bensted (Bayford, England/Simon Balle), Anna Boda (Waxhaw, N.C./Parkwood), Brooke Freeman (Mooresville, N.C./S. Iredell), Amber Hand (Kernersville, N.C./Glenn), Madysen Peck (Indian Trail, N.C./Sun Valley), Abbie Rainwater (Statesville, N.C./Statesville), Hannah Ryan (Melbourne, Australia/Ivanhoe) and Jovana Sanchez (Hickory, N.C./Hickory).

Baseball: Blanton and Almond Selected in MLB Draft Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College had a pair of players selected on the final day of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft. Junior closer Bryan Blanton (Albemarle, N.C./Albemarle) was taken in the 21st round by the New York Yankees, while junior catcher Zach Almond (Richfield, N.C./N. Stanly/UNCG) was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 35th round.

Football: Kitchens Lands on Two Preseason All-America Teams Football

Catawba senior linebacker Kyle Kitchens (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) has been named to the Street & Smith’s Preseason All-America team and was a second team pick by Lindy’s Sports.  Kitchens has earned All-America honors in each of his last two seasons and was the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in 2015 in helping the Catawba Indians to a league title and the NCAA II Playoffs.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Nick Brown, has announced the 2017 schedule for the Catawba Indians. Catawba is coming off a 6-8-3 campaign in 2016 that saw the Lady Indians finish seventh in the South Atlantic Conference.

Rowan) has been named as a NCAA II Baseball All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) an the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) which is sponsored by the Collegiate Commissioner’s Association (CCA).

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Andres Perez hit a tiebreaking home run with two-outs in the bottom of the eighth to left second-seeded North Georgia to a 5-4 win over Catawba to claim the title at the 2017 NCAA II Southeast Region Baseball Tournament on Monday afternoon at Mount Olive’s Scarborough Field.  The sixth-ranked Nighthawks improve to 46-10 and advance to the National Finals in Grand Prairie, Texas.  The 30th-ranked Catawba Indians end their season at 40-17.

Baseball: Baseball Heads to Regional Final After Eliminating #1 Mount Olive Baseball

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Catawba moved into Monday’s final with a 6-5 elimination game win over top-ranked Mount Olive at the 2017 NCAA II Southeast Region Baseball Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Scarborough Field.  The 30th-ranked Catawba Indians improve to 40-16 with their third straight elimination victory and will face second-seeded North Georgia in the final at 11 am.  The Nighthawks are undefeated at the regional and will have to be beaten twice.  The Trojans end their season at 48-10.
