SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Director of Athletics Larry Leckonby has announced several changes in the athletic staff.  Craig Turnbull has been promoted to Associate Athletics Director, Jim Lewis to Senior Assistant Athletic Director and David McDowell to Assistant Athletic Director.  Basketball assistant coaches Brian Graves, for the men, and Terrence Baxter, for the women, have been promoted to Associate Head Coaches.  Ricky Joines joins the athletic department as the Coordinator of Athletic Facilities.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Catawba men’s and women’s swimming teams have earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the spring semester of 2015.  To receive the honor, teams must have a combined 3.0 GPA for the semester for all members of the team.

Football: Three Named to USA College Football Preseason All-America Teams Football

Catawba had three players on the list of the 26th Annual USA College Football D-II Preseason All-Americans presented by the American Football Networks.  Wide receiver Carlos Tarrats (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS) and defensive back Mark McDaniel (China Grove, N.C./S. Rowan HS) were second team honorees, while punter Caleb Berry (Lexington, S.C./Lexington HS) was an honorable mention pick.

Athletics News: Catawba Places 110 Student-Athletes on SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll Athletics News

ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- A record 1,329 student-athletes, spanning each of the South Atlantic Conference’s 12 member institutions and 18 sports, were named to the 2014-15 SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The number of honorees represents an increase of 102 student-athletes from last year’s list.

Baseball: Baseball Puts Six on NCCSIA All-State Teams Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Six players from the 2015 Catawba College baseball team have earned spots on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Baseball Teams.  The announcement of the twenty-six players, which represent 10 different North Carolina College and Universities, was announced on Wednesday.

Baseball: New York Yankees Draft Albertson in 40th Round Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba junior catcher Will Albertson (Sophia, N.C./Randleman HS/Campbell) was selected in the 40th and final round of the 2015 MLB first-year player draft.  He was drafted by the New York Yankees with pick #1203 overall.

Baseball: Brooks Drafted by Chicago Cubs in 7th Round Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College senior pitcher Craig Brooks (Monroe, N.C./Parkwood HS) was selected in the seventh round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2015 MLB Player Draft.  He was pick #203 overall and is the highest draft pick for Catawba since Brian Boltz was taken in the second round (57 overall) in 1989.  Brooks joins Boltz, Kevin Hemphill and Mike Dickens as Catawba players taken in the first 10 rounds.

Baseball: Brooks Named Winner of Baseball's Tomko and Willingham Awards Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba senior Craig Brooks (Monroe, N.C./Parkwood HS) has added two more post-season awards to his name.  He has won the Brett Tomko Award presented by D2 Baseball News, which is bestowed to a college baseball pitcher whose on the field performance is deemed the most outstanding at the Division II level.  Brooks also won the Josh Willingham Award, which is given to the Most Valuable Player in DII baseball who leads his team both on and off the field.
