SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College has announced its 2015-16 athletic award winners for its student-athletes.  The awards were presented at the annual athletic ceremony held at the Keppel Auditorium on Tuesday, May 3.  Heading the list of award winners were Carley Tysinger and Dylan Richardson, who were awarded the Lomax and Kirkland Awards for the top male and female senior athletes who have been in attendance for at least three years, and Greta Tamasauskaite and Gary Williams, who were given the Wurster Awards for team leadership.

KODAK, Tenn. -- Catawba and Tusculum were declared co-championship of the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament after heavy rains caused the first of a possible two game to be called in the eighth inning.  Though Tusculum will gain a 6-5 win in the game, because a second game could not be played, the Catawba Indians will earn the league's automatic qualifier into the NCAA II Southeast Regional.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Catawba officially joined the field for the 2016 NCAA II Softball Championships on Monday morning as pairing and first round sites were released.  Catawba will be the #4 seed in the Southeast Region and will play in the Southeast Region #1 section at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- In the second of two championship games, Delane Smith (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Catawba the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday night at Byerly Park.  The win secures the Catawba Indians' spot in one of two NCAA II South Atlantic Regionals next week.  Catawba, seeded second, improves to 38-14, while the top-seeded Bears fall to 47-11.

KODAK, Tenn. -- Jake Kimble (Concord, N.C./Mt. Pleasant/Liberty)  singled home two runs in the bottom of the eighth as top-seeded Catawba rallied to beat second-seeded Carson-Newman 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament at Smokies Stadium.  The Catawba Indians improve to 34-17 and advance to Monday's championship day without a loss.  The Eagles fall to 31-20 and will try and battle back in an elimination game later tonight.

KODAK, Tenn. -- Will Albertson (Sophia, N.C./Randleman/Campbell) singled home Jake Kimble (Concord, N.C./Mt. Pleasant/Liberty) with one out in the top of the tenth on Sunday morning as Catawba topped Lincoln Memorial 9-8 in 10 innings to stay unbeaten at the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament at Smokies Park.  The Catawba Indians improve to 33-17 and will await the winner of Carson-Newman and Tusculum for its next contest later on Sunday.  The Railsplitters end their season at 29-20.

KODAK, Tenn. -- Catawba and Lincoln Memorial will have to continue its marathon contest of the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament on Sunday.  Heavy rains began to fall as LMU rallied for three ninth-inning runs and with the game tied 8-8, play was halted after the teams had battled for four hours.  The teams are currently scheduled to resume play at 9 am on Sunday morning.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Catawba snapped a 2-2 tie with back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning and went on to knock off 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 5-2 at Byerly Park on Saturday afternoon at the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament.  The Catawba Indians, now 37-13, advance to Sunday's championship game undefeated and will face either Lenoir-Rhyne or Queens.  The top-seeded Bears fall to 45-10.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne Bears claimed an 11-9 win over Catawba in the semifinals of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Friday night at the Queens Sports Complex.  Lenoir-Rhyne, now 11-6, advances to Sunday's final.  The Catawba Indians, who were seeded sixth, end their season at 8-10.

KODAK, Tenn. -- Top-seeded Catawba scored eight runs in its final three at bats to down sixth-seeded Wingate 11-5 on Friday afternoon at the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament at Smokies Stadium.  The Catawba Indians improve to 32-17 and advance to play on Saturday at 3:45 against the loser of tonight's game between Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial.  The Bulldogs fall to 29-21 and will face an elimination game on Saturday at noon.
