NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Mike Sheehan (Wilmington, N.C./Laney HS) threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Tarrats (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS), lifting Catawba to a 37-34 double overtime win over host Newberry on Saturday night at Setzler Field in both teams' South Atlantic Conference football opener.  The Catawba Indians improve to 2-1 overall, while the Wolves fall to 1-2.

JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Karen Presnell and Mary Kirkman combined in the last ten minutes of the game to score two goals to lift the #12 Catawba Lady Indians over South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman 2-1 Saturday evening in women's soccer action at McCowan field.  The Lady Indians remain undefeated and now stand 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the SAC.  Carson Newman falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the conference.

JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- The Catawba College men’s soccer team fell to the Carson-Newman Eagles 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday night at McCowan Field.  Catawba falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the SAC with the loss.  The Eagles, who played in last year’s national championship game, claim their first official win of the year after having to nullify their previous games and stand at 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Carson-Newman downed host Catawba in three sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  The Eagles won the match 25-21, 25-13, 25-11 to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians fall to 2-6 and 0-3.

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Catawba College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Winthrop Adidas XC Invite Saturday morning at the Winthrop University Farm.  Shawnee State claimed the men’s team win for all non-division I schools while Columbia College took the women’s division of the same category.  The Catawba men finished in third place with 100 points while the women did not field enough runners to qualify for team points.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Lincoln Memorial held off Catawba to take a four-set win in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym.  The Lady Railsplitters posted a 27-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16 win to improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians drop to 2-5 and 0-2.

Football: Rowan County United Way Agencies to Help Fill the Seats for Football Home Opener Football http://gocatawbaindians.com/article.asp?articleID=6383

Catawba College Athletics has partnered with 15 Rowan County United Way Agencies to pre-sell tickets to the first home football game of the season. These agencies will sell tickets to the 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 27th match-up against Carson-Newman and have the potential to realize half of the profits from every general admission ticket they sell.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College men’s basketball coach, Rob Perron, has announced seven new members to the team for his first season.  Joining the program will be Carlin Bremner (Davidson, N.C.), Rakeen Brown (Hampton, Va.), Greg Childress (Concord, N.C.), Jeremy McLaughlin (Greenville, S.C.), Jerrin Morrison (Charlotte, N.C.), Ben Sealey (Hampton, Va.) and Jameel Taylor (Anderson, S.C.).  Bremner, Brown and Sealey are transfers into the program.
