CARY, N.C. -- Due to the possibililty of thurnderstorms on Thursday, Catawba's game time has been moved up to 4 p.m.  The Catawba Indians will face the winner of Wednesday's game between Mercyhurts and Cal Poly Pomona.  The tournament schedule for Friday and Saturday will depend on results of Thursday's action.

Baseball: Early Offensive Backs Grant's Strong Outing as Baseball Downs Henderson St. Baseball

CARY, N.C. -- Junior Sean Grant (Statesville, N.C./W. Iredell HS) pitched into the eighth and Catawba rapped out 11 hits to knock off Henderson State 5-1 in the NCAA II Baseball National Finals on Monday night on Coleman Field at the USA National Training Complex.  The second-ranked Catawba Indians improve to 46-13 and will next play on Thursday night at 7 pm against an opponent to be determined from action on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Reddies, ranked 15th, fall to 32-20.

Baseball: Brooks Claims Gold Bat Award as ABCA/Rawlings National Player of Year Baseball

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Catawba College senior Craig Brooks (Monroe, N.C./Parkwood HS) has been named the 2015 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Bat Award winner as the National Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.  Brooks was also named the National Pitcher of the Year, while Will Albertson (Sophia, N.C./Randleman HS/Campbell) was named the National Position Player of the Year.
Brooks, a pitcher, who also plays third base, becomes the first Catawba player to earn the ABCA National Player of the Year honor.  Brooks currently sports a 9-1 record with 150 strikeouts and 33 walks in 96 innings pitched this season.  He has limited opponents to a .157 batting average and led the Indians to an appearance in the NCAA Div. II National Finals.

Baseball: Shepard And Brooks Lead Baseball to Opening Win at National Finals Baseball

CARY, N.C. -- NCAA II second-ranked Catawba opened its 2015 NCAA II National Finals with a 3-2 victory over Wilmington on Saturday night at the USA National Training Complex.  The Catawba Indians improve to 45-13 and will next play Henderson State on Monday night at 7 p.m.  The Wildcats, ranked 18th, fall to 37-14 and will face Angelo State in an elimination game on Monday at 3 p.m.

Baseball: Albertson Named NCBWA National Player of the Year Baseball

AUSTIN, Texas -- Catawba College junior catcher Will Albertson (Sophia, N.C./Randleman/Campbell) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Player of the Year.  He becomes the first player from Catawba or the South Atlantic Conference to earn National Player of the Year honors.

SALISBURY, N.C -- Catawba women’s golfer Madison Kennedy (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury HS) has been named to the Capital One Academic At-Large Team for District 3.  The district comprises student-athletes in South Atlantic, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas.

Baseball: Albertson and Brooks Named Consensus Region Player and Pitcher of Year Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College has produced the consensus Southeast Region Player and Pitcher of the Year in Will Albertson and Craig Brooks.  Albertson was named the Player of the Year by the ABCA, Daktronics and the NCBWA, while Brooks earned Pitcher of the Year honors from all three organizations.

Baseball: Baseball Heads Back to Cary for NCAA II National Finals Baseball

SALISBURY, N.C. – Catawba College has advanced to the 2015 NCAA II Baseball National Finals.  The Catawba Indians earned their way by claiming the Southeast Region title with a 1-0 victory over North Georgia on Sunday at Finch Field in Thomasville, N.C.  It marks the second time Catawba has qualified for the Championship, also reaching the finals in 2012.

Softball: Tysinger and Naturile Claim NFCA All-Region Honors Softball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Catawba‘s Carley Tysinger (Lexington, N.C./C. Davidson HS) and Natalie Naturile (Thomasville, N.C./E. Davidson HS) have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-Southeast Region Teams.  Tysinger earned first team honors at pitcher, while Naturile was a second team outfield selection.
